Remembrance Day

All the classes contributed to the remembrance service.

Our class learnt about poppies from the older children.

They had a go at making their own poppies.

We added some information to our learning logs.

Some of the neatest work was chosen to put on envelopes

We put poppyseed cookies in the envelopes for our guests to take home.

Some of the classes decorated the hall.

P4/5 made poppy wreaths and they also made poppies for all the children and guests.

The nursery had made their own poppies.

P6/7 wrote poems.

P3/4 researched some facts and shared their findings.

P1/2 handed out the cookies to the guests at the end.

The children did very well and we had a very fitting service for a whole school effort.

Jolly Phonics

P1 are very smart today in their ties!

We have been learning about the ie sound.

So we made some ties and spoke about pies and lies.

We know we need to be able to read the sound, write it and use it in a word.

Children in Need Prep

We have gone dotty in P1/2!!!!

For Children in Need this year we are doing a dotty bottle raffle as one of the fund raising events.

We have decided to organise the raffle which is going to be bottle holders decorated with dots.

Then we are going to fill the holders with bottles wrapped in dotty paper.

We have split into teams each painting a holder and producing dotty wrapping paper.

The school staff are providing the bottles to wrap.

Each holder will contain six bottles a bit like a drinks hamper.

We are making six bottle holders so there will be six lucky winners.

Rating a Story Book

We read a new picture book we were given by the Scottish Book Trust as part of the Book Bug initiative.

We thought about the story and how the book was presented.

We discussed it as a class and gave our personal opinions.

We drew our own bear on a chair as a follow-up and to finish off the study we rated the book with a smiley scale.

We have two more books to study then we will choose our favourite.

Weather & Seasons

Our topic this term is weather and seasons.

We are learning about autumn.

We went outside to look around and think about the season compared to last term.

It is getting colder and darker we decided.

We spoke about autumn and collected leaves

When we got back to the classroom we arranged our leaves in order.

We looked for the smallest, largest, most colourful, most interesting shape and our favourite.

We stuck the leaves down in order and we have written poems about the leaves falling.
