Christmas Dinner

Our kitchen ladies did a fantastic job of making us our Christmas dinner once again:-)

We certainly got into the spirit of things with tablecloths, music and crackers.

We wore our Christmas jumpers and hoped to avoid getting gravy down the front!

We sang songs and ate our fill.

The staff had a great time and a challenge to eat their plateful!

We managed!

Then we had a vote of thanks for the cooks before going out to work it off:-)

Daily Exercise

We are very lucky to be able to go outside at school and be meters away from seals playing in the sea.

It was a beautiful day and the children were excited to see the playful antics of the selkies.

On our walk we were able to see even more and do our usual selkie song.

Winter

As part of our weather topic we are learning about the seasons.

We looked at autumn at the beginning of term and now we are learning about winter.

We have learnt about animals that hibernate by studying hedgehogs.

Now we are beginning to think about what birds do. We have made fat balls with the nursery for birds in our gardens.

Data Handling

Maths activities this week have been based on data handling.

We have learnt to do pictographs and bar graphs.

Everyone got a lids challenge to test what they had learnt.

They were given a tub of random lids and told to present their findings as a diagram.

Firstly, the lids had to be sorted and the children had to decide how to do this.

They have been doing sorting activities in maths already so this was quite easy.

Then the data had to be put onto paper.

Some of the groups had been using rulers and they gave a bar graph a go.

Others tried pictograms.

Everyone managed the activity and created a good diagram of information.

We have even created a display so we can remember our good work and how to do graphs.

Advent

We made our own advent calendar to hang in the classroom.

Everyone drew a Christmas scene and hung their picture on the line.

Mysteriously a candy cane appeared inside each picture.

Everyone got a number to add to their Christmas scene.

Every day someone opens their picture and takes it home.

There's not many left now!

Studyladder

We joined up with P4/5 to learn about Studyladder.

They helped us log on and then showed us how to find things on the site.

Some of the children had been on the site already. Well done:-)

There were lots of maths games going on and some updating of profiles.

Everyone enjoyed the help from P4/5.

Book Bug Workshop

Every year P1 pupils receive a bag of books from the Scottish Book Trust.

In past years P2 pupils have received a book as an extra because they are part of a P1/2 class.

This year there is a bag of books for all children up to P3.

This is part of the government initiative to improve reading across Scotland.

P1/2 at Firth love books and they love listening to a story.

Sally read them Shark in the Park.

Then they played a few games with the stretchy Lycra.

The Bookbug teddies went flying.

Then there were some songs and actions.

Everyone really enjoyed the visit.
