A World of Books

All the classes in the school have been looking at picture books.  We have used the books to think closely about the messages they give us and the hidden meanings a young child might not understand at first.

P1/2 added characters to On the Way Home after reading the story with Mrs Friel.

P6/7 looked at The Day the Crayons Quit.

P3/4 read The Gruffalo's Child in Orcadian.

P4/5 looked at Not Now Bernard.

P1/2 also did This is Not My Hat with Mrs Rendall.

Once we had completed the reading activities as a whole class we created our own characters from our imagination.  The idea was to create characters which we could give human like features.(Personification - the longest word we had ever seen!)

We could draw one by ourself or with a partner or in a group.

Three characters were going to be chosen by P3/4 and they were going to create the place and start off the story using our characters.

We displayed our characters on the stairs, ready for the vote.

P3/4 made their choice and we are waiting with excitement to see what happens to them in the story.
