Outdoor Maths

We were learning about 2D shape outside in the playground today.

We learnt about circles, squares, rectangles, triangles and hexagons!

We found lots of circles.

Plenty of squares...

...and rectangles.

Triangles were a bit trickier to find.

We had good fun finding 2D shapes and even had a little time to play:-)

We didn't find any hexagons or octagons!!!

Maybe we can look for shapes at home and see if we can find any hexagons or octagons!

We did find some at home!!!

Great stuff:-)

ICT with P7

We were learning how to use the laptops today.

We had P7 in to help us as there were lots of tricky things to do.

First, we had to switch them on and put in the password.

Then we had to find the internet icon and log on.

Some of the laptops didn't work very well.

Class 7 did their best to get them online.

We eventually got the CBeebies website up and running on some of the laptops.

We chose from a huge list of educational games.

It was good fun!

We also were using an iPad to play maths games.

When we got stuck we asked the P7 pupils for help.

They were great!

We had a full classroom for our ICT lesson.

It was a good experience and hopefully P7 will help us again next week:-)

P5 Activities

We had a special treat today when P5 came in to do activities with us.

We split into 5 groups.

Some of the groups got a story read to them, and then they did a follow-up activity the older pupils had prepared.

P5 asked really good questions.

They chose interesting books.

And they read with great expression.

One group had prepared an activity for the hall.

They had focussed on ball skills and games.

They even had little certificates prepared for the P1/2 pupils.

They all enjoyed the session.

The children were very patient and helpful with each other.

We all learnt a lot about what is involved with teaching and learning.

Some groups prepared extension activities incase the P1/2 children finished the activity quickly.

Some groups discovered they had too much to do, or too little.

Everyone agreed they had learnt something and would be able to develop and improve for next time.

Getting Creative

Some of us were making space crafts today.

And some of us were making iPads or collages or all sorts of things.

We were investigating some of the new materials set out in the classroom for choosing time.

There was also some crocodile rulers to test out!

There was lots of exciting creations to take home.

If anyone has appropriate junk they would like to donate to the class, that would be great:-)

Tag Rugby with Tom

We had Tom at school today for tag-rugby.

It was wet outside so we had it in the hall instead.

We learnt about dodging, swerving and side-stepping.

We had to catch other people's tag belts.
Then we played boys versus girls.

We counted how many belts we managed to snatch.

Then we added a ball to the activity.

There was lots of action!

There was a lot of enthusiasm!

Next week we will be outside so old trainers and tracky bottoms will be needed:-)
