Library Time

Every week we use the school library to choose a new book to take home and share.

We also take the opportunity to read books which appeal to us.

We read quietly during these sessions as you should in a library.

It is also a time when different classes can read together.

Preschool Transition

We have tried new activities this week and P1/2 have had new roles.

The preschool had to find their name on a lolly stick and use it to write their name on their activity.

P1/2  led some pencil control activities.

They read nursery rhyme books and drew pictures to create little books of their own.

They all did very well.

Outdoors

It was a good day to get outdoors for some fresh air and exercise today.

The P1/2s have developed a very good solution for finding water in the play area.

They use water and soil and sand to create wonderful mixtures!

They have also found some great hiding places!

P6/7

We had a different group of P6/7 pupils leading a PE session.

There was a warm-up and main activity.

To complete the session there was a cool down game.

P1/2 loved the lesson.

Maths

We created posters to show information about 3D shapes.

Each team had a different shape.

We included information about edges, corners and faces.

Everyone had to do something.

We presented our posters to the rest of the class.

Group Writing

After listening to a story book we decided to write books ourselves.

We split into five groups so we could work as a team.

The first thing to do was come up with an idea everyone agreed on.

Then there had to be a decision about what everyone was going to do.

There had to be a beginning, a middle and an end.

Once the group had organised themselves they could have three or four sheets of paper for the task.

The story had to make sense and everyone had to do something to contribute.

Every group had a team leader who was responsible for everyone being happy.

They were also responsible for making final decisions.

Half way through the time given the team was asked to review their work. Set it out and use it to tell the story.

This was to help realise if they were on the right track. Did it make sense?

Once they had agreed on their next steps they had time left to finish off their illustrated story.

To finish off the activity the groups had time to practise telling their story before presenting to the class.

Once they were ready they put their pages into a cover and created their own book.

The books are displayed in the classroom. The teams worked hard on their writing challenge.
